Lots-o' Questions
Hey, Rice Against here! I'm a noob from many, if not all, perspectives. So, I have a "few" questions I'd like to ask.
1) Primary Class/Secondary class: Which ones are self sufficient? What combinations can go solo a lot? Right now, I'm an Ele/Mes. I don't have many friends that play PC (they're console lovers). 2) I'm not too new to Guild Wars (played the trial before, and now I'm playing the trial again) but should I wait for Guild Wars 2 or just get Guild Wars? Reading the guide, it seems that I'll know which ones to get, if I get the 1st one. Oh, and being a console lover, too (<3), does anyone know if GW2 will be out for consoles too, although that's unlikely? Thanks for your time. Oh, if I posted in the wrong section, please direct me where to go, thanks again. RA |

Hi and welcome.
1) Guild Wars isn't really an environment that fosters being self-sufficient. Although the tutorial area is primarily solo, the majority of the game is designed for a party of eight. Any role you choose to pursue can be implemented into the group. 2) GW1 products are ultra-cheap nowadays, and there's no subscription fee. Might as well spend ten bucks or whatever on a campaign and see if you like it enough. If you don't, at least it didn't cost very much. Also, there are no plans to port the game to consoles. |

As far as soloing goes: http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Category:A...farming_builds Most combinations are capable of farming to some extent, but some are more capable than others. Note: Once you pass a certain point in the game you'll be able to change your secondary whenever you're in a town or outpost. Don't stress over the choice. You can just stick to your primary profession until you can change it if you make a bad choice. Quote:
About GW2 on console, it's not happening. I don't think it's even possible to play an MMO on console anyway (not that you'd want to).

1) Pretty much all bar paragons have a build that can be used to solo farm. Even paras can go /Rt for SoS, so just about everything. Although for msot of the game ull be better off with a party of 8.
2) Pick it up, not v expensive. Worst case scenario you dont like it. Or you do, and u can build up b4 gw2 hom and stuff. Or, just stick with another game till gw2 comes out. And no, it probs wont be on console. |

Already loving the community. I think I'll see if I can last until Call of Duty: Black Ops (band-wagon FTW) comes out. If not, I'll be getting Prophecies. If I'm really into Prophecies, then I'll get the other two and maybe even EotN.
Thanks all! RA |

1. No single character in GW is self-sufficient; it's a team game. (I'm excepting "farming" builds that use a very specialized skillset to take on a very specialized monster set and win solo.)
2a. Might as well buy GW1 at the current prices. 2b. I'd say the odds of GW2 on console are very near 0%. |

It seems like if I'm not partying w/ NPCs, I'll be partying w/ other players. I understand why this game is called Guild Wars now!
I'll try to trade in some games or something to make extra cash to buy the campaigns, because this game is worth it. Or, I can take money out of my secret hiding spots. ^^ Thanks again, RA |

I hope you like the game when you do get the cash to buy Prophesies.
Some things I don't think were covered. You will have seen the henchmen you can recruit so you don't have to solo everything when other players are not there to help you. This system was expanded in Nightfall with Heroes these are customisable computer controlled party members. You get to choose their secondary class skills and weapons. You can do the entire pve game using them though some areas are tough without real people. Secondary class can be changed once you reach a certain point in the game, you can then change secondary as often as you wish. If and when you buy additional games/expansion you simply add the game code you get to your first account if you do a new install you will end up with 2 games on different accounts. read up on this before adding a second game. You can freely cross from prophesies to factions to nightfall and also eye of the north taking your characters through all the map areas, no mater which game they started in. Do not lose your game codes they are your only proof of ownership. Choose a decent password and never ever share this with anyone. finally remember one of your characters names as this is required to log on. |

I've had the most fun with my Ritualist to be honest. Necromancer is also a very fun build. If you want to easily get into parties, Monk is probably the best to go with. Warriors have the coolest armor.
Guild Wars is one of the best games I have played (and I am an avid gamer). Definitely worth the pick up. |

OP I'm sure you'll get the (whiney) prophets of doom telling you that gw's is dead, but it's probably still worth getting (any game that you have fun with is worth getting imho). Theres no definite date for gw2 yet and if you get eotn, some things from your hall of monuments are said to carry over to gw2. Last edited by Zebideedee; Jul 07, 2010 at 10:18 AM // 10:18.. |

Just a note, apart from what others said, if you decide buying you'd better buy the complete collection, instead of a campaign only, since you'll pay something like 13 whatever currency for a single one and something like 14 for the entire pack.
